Aston Martin DB4 repaint ready for collection
Aston Martin DB4 repaint all complete
This 1962 Aston Martin DB4 came to us after one of the owners friend's saw us exhibiting at the Goodwood Revival 2019 where we had 3 cars on display.

The owner has had this car for 20 plus years and since purchasing the car has had very little paintwork done to it.

On the whole it is fairly tidy, certainly not in need of a bare metal repaint as we are more used to but more in need of a cosmetic lift.

The car was stripped out removing all it's brightwork etc and we got to removing the material from all the lower edges where light corrosion was evident, we sanded the lower 2" back to bare aluminium and also around the wired edges, we used all the existing material as a foundation to block and reshape then lightly skimming the lower edges into it.

Both door frames had a small amount of rust so required cutting out and letting in new metal.

Both doors were bare metalled on the outer faces to remove some slight corrosion to a few areas then a small amount of filler was needed to sort them out ready for primer.

The bonnet was bare metalled after removing and excess amount of filler as that had a few signs of corrosion evident too and that also needed very little filler to correct the shape.

We primed the complete exterior including the bonnet, boot lid and doors applying etch primer on all the bare areas then four coats of high build primer.

The car was then prepared and finished in P500 before masking and repainting in Goodwood Green, the car was painted first, followed by all the loose panels.

We then sanded all the fresh paintwork after it had been left a week or so with P1000 / P2000 / P3000 then buffed to a deep gloss shine.

All the brightwork and items removed for the repaint were stripped / cleaned and polished before refitting.

We captured some of the work in a series of YouTube videos - take a look at how we restored the sheen to this classic Aston Martin beauty!
